John Daly withdraws due to medical reasons

Former Open champion John Daly was withdrawn from this year’s contest at Royal Portrush, citing a medical condition.


Daly ab initio same he would try and play "through the pain" of osteoarthritis in his right knee once seeing his request to use a golf cart turned down by the R&A on Sat, though has currently been replaced within the field by fellow yank Kevin Streelman.

The 53-year-old uses a buggy throughout events on the PGA Tour Champions and was given permission to use one at the PGA Championship in could underneath the Americans With Disabilities Act, wherever he lost the cut.

However, Daly's call to miss the ultimate major of the year was created easier once a spider bite while on vacation in England last week resulted in him requiring hospital treatment.


The cuckold major champion tweeted details on Sunday regarding his visit, wherever he disclosed that the bite had resulted in 'a major infection in his abdominal area'.

He tweeted: "‪My life chapter 84k: Craziest event! Was in England last wk & incurred a spider bite, not very knowing it. quick forward to Friday, mouth/mouth, compressions unwittingly currently in AN machine rush to ER all whereas on family vacation & straight into surgery! Rory Sabbatini is currently initial reserve for the competition from July 18-21, with Brian Harman and Martin Kaymer next within the alternates list.
